Tiles We Made for the Inpatient Oncology Unit
From September to about the middle of November, whenever we were in clinic for long amount of time (which was MANY times), we worked on painting tiles for the remodled inpatient oncology unit of the hospital. All the children and their families were asked to do a tile if they wanted to. It was a good time-filler, so we jumped at the chance. Matthew and I would play several games when we got to clinic and then he would watch TV or draw while I painted. It was quite involved for him to do by himself. He did do the panda and the house ... at least most of those two, by himself. The tiles were placed along the length of all the nurses' stations on the inpatient unit. We hope you enjoy looking at these as much as we enjoyed making them.

First design of Matthew's.
First design of Matthew's. He loves to draw houses and rainbows. The tile is on the nurse's station right on the corner, so as you walk down the hall, you see it really, really well!!

Lane's snake design.
After we got home, we told Lane about the house tile Matthew did and that they wanted all family members to do one if they could. Lane drew this GREAT desert scene and told me what colors to paint it. I thought it turned out so good!

Mom's first frog tile.
I like frogs because the initials stand for "Fully Rely On God" so I wanted to paint a frog. This one was a design they had and I just traced it and painted it. There were several other designs just like this, but different colors. Matthew insisted on taking this picture...sorry it is out of focus.

Mom's 2nd frog tile.

This is the only frog design that looks like this. I was glad I did my own design, as well as the other one. I used a frog graphic from the Internet for the main part and added the lilypad, cattails, and dragonfly.

Matthew's last design.
Matthew insisted on taking this picture too! He did a GREAT job drawing and painting this cute panda bear!

All the tiles that the children, their families, the oncology doctors, nurses, child life specialists, etc. painted are beautiful and they really add a lot to the new unit. I'm glad they took the time and effort to have this done.
